As part of our routine CSR and sustainability activities, The Zahara Group organized a tree plantation drive in Al Hamra aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, and combating climate change while preserving nature's beauty. The event took place on February 18th, 2023, on the premises of one of our resorts, The View Oman, situated at Hail Al Shas in Al Hamra and witnessed participation by members of our corporate team and hotel associates. A variety of trees were planted in and around the area at The View Oman.
This year as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Zahara Travel Group, the tree plantation drive was of particular significance as we celebrate this landmark occasion with a year of CSR initiatives with the objective of working towards the pursuit of good economic benefits with a high degree of corporate social responsibility and carry out sustainable green development for business purposes. At the Zahara Group, we not only pay attention to energy conservation and emissions reduction in our daily operations but also actively carry out a variety of public welfare activities, such as planting trees, Earth Hour participation and more - by not just talking about but also demonstrating the concept of environmental protection in our actions.
The plantation drive is a practical action to put into practice the Zahara Group’s green environmental protection ideas. A group of 10 staff members joined hands in this sustainability activity and started their trip from their homes, early in the morning of the 18th of February to The View Oman, our Al Hamra resort. As the people arrived at the planting venue the event began with a brief introduction about the event and the importance of tree plantation, followed by the planting of the trees. The members soon got busy digging the necessary holes and planting the saplings in apt locations so they grow smoothly. For the plantation drive, sustainable tree species were selected that are well-suited to the local climate and soil conditions. Each of the plant species was appropriately situated at the right depth and spacing. Also, factors such as water availability, sunlight, and space requirements were considered.
We hope that the trees planted during this drive will provide shade, improve air quality, and support in reducing carbon footprint, while also enhancing the guest experience and so supporting the local economy. We hope that this initiative will inspire others to join us in our efforts to promote environmental sustainability and make Oman greener. At the Zahara Group we believe in making a collective endeavour to protect our planet and create a better world for the future.
After the event, associates at The View Oman were trained on how to take care of and maintain the plants through appropriate regular pruning, watering, and fertilising and these saplings will continue to be nurtured by the team there. This sapling plantation event was part of The Zahara Group’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable practices within the organisation and reduce our carbon footprint.
Afterwards, The View Oman arranged a delicious lunch for the team engaged in this sustainability activity, post which they returned to Muscat, with the gratification of having done something to give back to the environment that supports us.
